Chemical peels use a chemical solution, usually an acid, to ‘peel’ away the top layers of the epidermis in order to improve conditions such as acne, irregular pigmentation or wrinkles. They can range from mild to aggressive and, depending on the nature and depth of the peel, a significant number of layers can be exfoliated. This allows new, fresh skin to be exposed, creating a vibrant appearance, promoting a rosy glow or even drying up an acne flare up. A chemical peel is a very quick and easy treatment and can be performed during a lunch hour. Depending on the strength of the peel, some may just leave your skin freshened and radiant. Others are deeper and are associated with a few days of peeling and redness. Your clinician will work with you to determine which chemical peel is best suited for your skin and schedule.
